Straight teeth not only look fantastic but they’re also an important part of healthy living.
Straight teeth allow you to chew your food better, which helps with digestion.
It’s also easier to clean your teeth properly and prevent gum disease, which can lead to tooth decay and loss if it isn’t treated.
Many dental treatments can affect your speech for a short amount of time and braces are no exception. But don’t worry! You’ll get used to the appliances quickly and be speaking naturally in no time.
If you will be wearing aligners you won’t be able to eat or drink anything other than water whilst they are in place. You will, of course, take them out when you are eating your regular meals.
For the most part, the teeth straightening systems we use are relatively painless. But because your teeth are physically moving, albeit slowly, there is a chance you may feel a slight ache for a few days after you begin treatment or when you start using a new aligner.
An over-the-counter pain reliever can be effective for treating these aches but most patients find the discomfort goes away pretty quickly on its own.
Keeping things straight
Once your teeth straightening treatment is complete we may fit you with a fixed or removable retainer for you to wear at night and, in some cases, you may need a ‘top up’ aligner which you may need to wear for a few weeks.
You will also need to follow a regular oral health routine- including brushing and flossing- as well as eating smart and protecting your teeth during rough physical activity such as contact sports.
